David Hale Elliott, Sr., 94, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran that bravely served his country during WWII. While stationed in Iwo Jima, Japan, David was wounded and received a Purple Heart. David retired from the Naval Ordinance in Louisville. He was a member of many organizations that included the Purple Heart Association, Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 1693, American Legion Post 28, Depaul Lodge Chapter 338, and Derby Chapter 13 Marine. David was also a musician and member of the Boy Scouts of America and K-Sons Model Train Club.
He was born on November 11, 1925, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Carl and Gayle (Land) Elliott. David was also preceded in death by his son, Gary Elliott; siblings, Gaylord Elliott, LeRoy Elliott, and Juanita Potts; grandson, Scotty Elliott; and great-grandson, Gabriel Elliott.
David is survived by his loving wife of over 72 years, Patricia (Dome) Elliott; children, Leslie Elliott (Dorothy), David Elliott, Jr. (Patty), Mark Elliott (Donna), Judie Horner (Ronnie), and Lisa Lenfert (Tom); daughter-in-law, Linda Elliott; brother, Zane Elliott; grandchildren, Georgette Wright (Chris), Rachel McVay (Tena), Christy Lawalin (Jason), Jessica Smith (Lee), Jason Elliott (Wendy), Mark Elliott, Jr. (Mary), Jeremy Elliott (Nat), Truman Elliott (Sarah), Joseph Elliott (Melissa), Hope Staves (Jimmy), and Troy Lenfert (Kayla); 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the chapel at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
