Darrell Louis Thompson of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023. He was 69.
Darrell was born September 29, 1953, to parents Gerald and Doris (Clark) Thompson. He was the second of seven children. Darrell attended St. Frances of Rome School, Trinity High School and then transferred to Atherton High School and graduated in 1971. Upon graduation, Darrell worked numerous jobs; the Stock Yards, Crighton-Davis Medical Transcriptionists, Krauth Heating & Air, various painting jobs, and renovated numerous properties in Louisville.
He was a member of Louisville's Lager Homebrew Club and loved traveling and trying out new lagers from around his beloved state of Kentucky and beyond, even in Germany. His hobbies were his family and friends … and the Internet. He was constantly reading and searching the Web for all kinds of information on nutrition, politics, farming and games. When he wasn't searching the Internet he loved playing cards, in particular poker with his brothers and friends. He loved seeing his cousins from Owensboro and going to their annual burgoo gatherings and looked forward to our annual family chili cookouts.
Preceding him in death are his father, Gerald, and son, Jason.
Darrell leaves behind his mother, Doris of Louisville; brothers, Bruce of Conyers, Georgia; Mark of Louisville, KY; Alan (Meg) of Louisville, KY; David (Franzine) of Taylorsville, KY; Glen (Karen) of Brandenburg, KY; a sister, Diane of Louisville, KY; a son, Brian (Justine) of Louisville, KY; daughter-in-law, Rachel (wife of Jason, preceding Darrell in death) of Louisville, KY; and six beautiful grandchildren, Amelia, Levi, Hunter, Cole, London and Oliver. (a/k/a PePaw to them.) He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends who have been so kind and comforting to him these past few months, in particular his longtime friend and soulmate, Tina Howell.
We will miss him terribly, but are comforted to know he is no longer suffering from cancer. He will be reunited with his father, Gerald, and son, Jason, and may he rest in peace until we see him again.
Visitation and memorial services will be on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243) with visitation beginning at 3 P.M. and memorial service beginning at 6 P.M. (Burial service will be private.)
