Darrell Zane Gibbs, 74, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022. He was surrounded by his family, who are lost without him but are grateful he will be reunited with the love of his life, Donna. He missed her every day. Darrell was always there to talk or listen, tell you a joke (usually an inappropriate one), or help you tackle anything that needed to be fixed. It didn't matter if it was something he knew about or not, he would research and find the solution. Darrell will forever be remembered as the saint that lovingly raised four daughters in a home with one bathroom, and they all lived to tell the tale. The world will be a little less bright without his kind heart, humor, and compassion.
He was born on July 11, 1947, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Robert Gibbs and Vernonia (Hisey) Savage. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Gibbs, which he truly could not wait to catch up with.
Darrell is survived by his loving daughters, Brooke Edwards (Randy), Brittany Bley, Dara Gibbs, and Lindsey Ofcacek (Tim); his grandchildren, Molly, Wyatt, Haley, Theodore, and Julian; the closest you can get to a brother, his best friend and fishing buddy, Albert Fischer (Karen); his bonus son he loved fiercely, Steve Welch; his sister, Robin Zipper (John); and his four-legged friends, Sophie, Georgia Dean, and Gracie.
A Memorial Gathering will be from will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Memorial Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family requests that contributions in Darrell's memory be made to Hosparus Health or The New Albany Animal Shelter, two organizations he respected greatly. Or better yet, go to Williams Bakery and enjoy a fried chocolate Danish and say a cheers to him; it's the only thing he may have loved as much as Donna and his girls.
