Darlene (Brown) McIntyre, 83, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
She was born on December 6, 1934, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Leo and Mildred (Robinson) Brown. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William McIntyre; son, Roger Brown; sister, Olphelia Robinson; and grandson, Rueben Brown.
Darlene was a lifelong member of the Galatian Missionary Baptist Church. She joined the church at 10 years old under the late Reverend William Baity and was also baptized by him. She remained a faithful member until her death. Darlene loved to tell people the exact day that she found the Lord, and that date is June 9, 1945. She sang in the choir, served on the usher board, and was past president of the missionary society. Darlene attended the old Scribner High School. She then went on to work in many different occupations. Darlene worked as a nurse's aide, was a lunch monitor at New Albany High School, an employee of the Silvercrest C.D.C. Facility for 18 years, volunteered at Green Valley Nursing Home for many years, and was a proud native of New Albany.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Terry, Tyrone, and Lisa McIntyre; sister, Ollie Bea Childress; brothers, Rev. Jackie Brown and William Brown; daughter-in-law, Anna Brown; grandchildren, Amelia and Lambert Brown (Lindsay); and great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Ashlyn, Chalene, and Brooklyn Brown.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church (2020 Maryland Avenue, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church with burial to follow at West Haven Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
