Danny E. VanHook, age 79 of Louisville, Kentucky passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky due to Lewy Body Dementia. Danny, who was born January 3, 1947, has gone to be with his heavenly father and his parents, the late Hollis Edward and Roxie Jane VanHook. Danny and his parents were born in Somerset, Ky. Danny served honorably as a member of the United States Air Force in Vietnam. He retired from St. Raphael and the Archdiocese of Louisville. Throughout his life he enjoyed music and art. Playing in bands as a teenager and going to concerts; participating in the St. James Art Festival, Prospect Art Festival, and Cherokee Triangle Art Festival became a hobby for him. Otter Creek Park, Joe Creason Park walks and fishing in the Parklands were ways he would unwind. On Saturdays he could be seen at a local DQ enjoying a Blizzard followed by a Starbucks coffee. Danny resided a The Pinnacle of Louisville upon the progression of his Lewy Body Dementia.
In addition to his parents, many cherished pets preceded him in death.
Danny leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Twila; daughter, Dawna Spencer; grandchildren, Hayden and Emma; sister, Joyce Dowdell; along with many nieces and a nephew. Freddie and Sweetie Pie survive.
A gathering to remember Danny's life and legacy will be from 2pm to 6pm on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243. Burial will be private in Edwardsville Cemetery with military honors.
Memorials may be made to the Alleycat Association (https://alleycatadvocates.org/), the Wounded Warrior Project or Dementia research.
