Daniel (Dan) Miller Smith, 71 of Louisville, passed away September 3, 2021. He was born March 19, 1950, to the late Joe Dudley and Nancy Moorman Smith. Dan graduated from Waggener High School, attended University of Kentucky, and received an Associates Degree in Tool & Die Engineering from ITT Technical Institute in Indianapolis, IN. His career spanned 38 years as a Sales Engineer and Vice President of CECO Environmental (formerly Kirk & Blum Mfg.) and three years at Merrick Kemper before retiring.
Dan was an avid Street Rodder and founding member of the Obsolete Iron Car Club. He was a member of the ISCA and worked for 30 years judging their car shows around the country, including the famous Carl Casper Show in Louisville. Dan was the best Dad and Papaw to his girls and grandchildren, always smiling and joking, and there to fix whatever broke around the house or car needing repair. Anytime a friend was in need he was right there without them even asking. He was our true rock and center of our family. He will be so missed by us and his many friends he's left behind.
Left to cherish Dan's memory are his wife of 47 years, Debbie Smith; his children April L. Smith (Steven), Loren Catrambone (Michael), and Hayley Smith Lopez (Juan), and his grandchildren, Peyton and Cooper Catrambone; his sister Diane Duke (David) and Nancy Jo Rousseau (Kenny), and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
A gathering to celebrate Dan's life will be from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, September 13, 2021.
Memorials may be made to Cedar Lake Lodge. Envelopes for donation will be provided.
