Daniel Joseph Schmelz, born on October 11, 1966, in New Albany, Indiana, passed away on October 29, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. He leaves behind a legacy characterized by dedication, warmth, and a lifelong commitment to both family and career.
Daniel dedicated an impressive thirty years of his life to Ford Motor Company, where his unwavering commitment and hard work made him a respected member of the organization. His professional journey was shaped by the same determination that guided him through every aspect of his life.
An alumnus of Jeffersonville High School, Daniel graduated in 1985. His passion for music shone brightly during his school years, particularly as he played the trumpet for both the marching band and pep band. Additionally, he found joy in being part of the orchestra and musical productions, where his love for performance truly came alive.
Outside of his professional and academic achievements, Daniel enjoyed a rich tapestry of interests. He was a dedicated Disney fan, relishing his trips to Disney World with his wife, Cherie Schmelz. His enthusiasm extended to arcade gaming, and he held a particular fondness for the movie "Back to the Future." Furthermore, Daniel was a regular attendee at Star Trek conventions, where he delighted in engaging with fellow enthusiasts.
Daniel was a loving husband to his wife, Cherie Schmelz, and a proud father to his son, Ethan Schmelz. He is also survived by his mother, Mary B. McGarvey; brothers, Martin Schmelz and Richard Schmelz; stepmother, Sue Schmelz; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends who will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Schmelz; his brother, David Schmelz; his step-brother, Norman Miller; and his grandparents.
Daniel was especially proud of the time he spent with family and friends, cherishing the connections that enriched his life. His memory will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit that will never be forgotten.
A visitation will be held in honor of Daniel on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150.
