Listen to Obituary

Damon Cooper Boldrick, 83, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, with his wife Sue by his side, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty, devotion to family, and countless stories that could make you laugh, think, and always left you wanting to hear one more.

Known to those who loved him as Cooper, he was a proud father to his daughter, Natalie (Darren), and was preceded in death by his son, Damon Boldrick. His bonus children, Joanna (Mac), John David (Alison), and Joshua (Lydia), were blessed to have him in their lives and to call him family. Cooper was also a proud and loving grandfather to 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson, all of whom brought him tremendous joy.

He is survived by his siblings, his twin Rafe (Nancy), Ginny, and Gene (Claire)

Cooper was witty, intelligent, curious, and attentive. He had a genuine interest in people and in the world around him. He was a legend at J-Town High School Cooper had a special ability to connect with his students and was remembered by many as a favorite teacher. He was the kind of educator whose influence extended far beyond the classroom.

A lifelong learner himself, Cooper was rarely without something to read. He loved history books, and remained curious about the world throughout his life. At family gatherings, he could often be counted on to have a story to share, a bit of history to offer, or an observation that made everyone think—or laugh.

More than anything, Cooper loved his family. He adored his grandchildren, and appreciated the routines and simple pleasures of everyday life—including having his meals on time. And while he loved having everyone together, those closest to him knew that eventually Cooper would quietly retreat to his beloved sunroom, where he could recharge, read, think, and enjoy a little solitude.

And if you didn’t find Cooper settled into his favorite chair there was a good chance you could find him at Woodhaven Country Club, where he had been a member since 1983. Whether he was hitting balls or walking the course, golf was a longtime part of Cooper’s life and something he truly enjoyed.

That was Cooper: deeply engaged with the people and the world around him, but equally appreciative of a quiet place to think.

He will be missed by his family, friends, former students and fraternity brothers from WKU. He was one of a kind.. Cooper was someone you could count on—always willing to help and always there when the people he loved needed him. The lessons he taught, the stories he shared, and the love he gave his family will live on in all those who knew and loved him.
