Dale Edward Russell, Sr.

Dale Edward Russell, Sr., passed away on October 19, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on July 20, 1948, Dale lived a life marked by service, dedication, and the simple joys that brought him happiness.

Dale was an Army veteran who served his country in the Vietnam War. For his bravery, he earned two Bronze Stars, a distinction that reflected both his courage and his commitment. His dedication to fellow veterans continued long after his military service. He served as Post Commander of Post 5421 and also as Treasurer, offering his time and leadership in support of those who had served alongside him and those who followed.

In his working life, Dale retired from JCPS after 30 years of service. His long career reflected a steady and faithful commitment, and he carried that same dependability into the many parts of his life.

Outside of work and service, Dale found enjoyment in the things that brought people together. He enjoyed collecting coins, loved fishing, and treasured the time he spent with his friends at the VFW. These interests were a meaningful part of his life and gave him many moments of fellowship and pleasure.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Marie Russell; parents, Perry and Mary Russell and seven sisters. 

Dale is survived by his children, Chris (Jennifer) Russell, Dale (Patricia) Russell, Jr., Lori (Patrick) Carstens, Tony Russell; grandchildren, Michael Carstens, Ashley Russell, David Carstens, Jared Russell, Perry Russell, Kayla Russell, and Derik Russell.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Dale during visitation on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, Kentucky 40272. A funeral service will follow there at 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 North Dixie Boulevard, Fort Knox, Kentucky 40121.

Dale will be remembered with respect for his military service, appreciation for his years of work, and affection for the friendships and pastimes that meant so much to him. His life leaves a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know him.
