Cynthia Lee Bryant, 77, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, with her daughter by her side.
She was born on September 30, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Carl and Dorothy (Wolff) Gatewood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Bryant, son, Christopher Bryant, and sister, Sue Ann Dearmond.
Cynthia was a woman of quiet strength and deep compassion whose kindness, courage, and devotion to her family reflected the very heart of a virtuous woman. A 1966 graduate of Shawnee High School, Cynthia began her career at Dean Tire before marrying the love of her life, Carl Bryant, with whom she raised two children, whom she loved with a fierce, unwavering devotion. Her children were the center of her world, and she protected and cherished them with her whole heart. She poured that same fierce love into her three grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as Mimi and brought her endless joy and pride.
After the devastating loss of her husband and son, Cynthia continued to move forward with grace and resilience, beginning her longtime career at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. She first served in the airport’s information booth, warmly guiding passengers through our great city. On 9/11, she worked tirelessly to help as many people as she could during an unimaginable day. She later became a certified dispatcher, a role in which she helped save lives by coordinating fire and EMS response whenever needed. Cynthia retired in 2015.
While working full-time, Cynthia also cared faithfully for both of her aging parents, tending to their needs with dignity and unwavering love until their passing-a testament to her loyalty, strength, and the depth of her compassion.
Cynthia enjoyed playing pool, fishing, visiting the beach as often as possible, tailgating at U of L games, and going shopping with her daughter-a simple joy that brought her so much happiness. She loved three things that always went together in her heart: peaches, beaches, and Jesus. Like her son, she never met a stranger, and she would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. Her generosity, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Cynthia is survived by her loving daughter, Caralee Wheeler (Nicholas), grandson, Bennett Wheeler, granddaughters, Emma Hasty (Harrison), and Abbie Jones.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243).
