Listen to Obituary

Craig Donald Kirkpatrick passed away on March 20, 2026.

Don served his country in the United States Army, a role he carried with quiet pride. He later spent his career as a mechanic, a job that suited him perfectly—because if it had an engine, Don could make it run, make it faster, or at the very least, make it louder.

His true passion, though, was building race cars and engines. Many cars came to life through his hands, while his best friend Quentin took the wheel. Sundays were reserved for NASCAR, where Don could be found watching (or re-watching, thanks to his recordings) the races, offering his own expert commentary from the living room.

When he wasn’t in the garage, Don enjoyed his westerns—especially Gunsmoke—and classic rock music that could usually be heard playing somewhere nearby. He was a man who never met a stranger, always ready with a joke, a conversation, or a story that might get a little better each time it was told.

More than anything, Don was a provider. He made sure his family never went without, no matter how tough life got. He found a way—every single time—and that’s a legacy that will live on far beyond words.

If Don were here to give one last piece of advice, it would probably be to keep it simple: take care of your people, laugh whenever you can, and ever underestimate the importance of a good engine…or a good story.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Phyllis Marie Kirkpatrick; brother, Bruce Leroy Kirkpatrick and 2 grandchildren, Leland Combs and Bella Elaine Marie Kirkpatrick.

Don leaves behind to cherish his memories, his children, Jodi (Kevin) Schade, Jennifer (Jessee) Combs, Eugene (Hillary) Kirkpatrick, Kelli (Gabe) Cooley and Cora Kirkpatrick; 17 grandchildren; brother, Wayne Kirkpatrick and a host of nephews.
