Courtney VeRon Haynes departed this life Friday evening, July 3, 2020. Courtney was the second child born to the union of Thomas Hollins Haynes and Sharon Johnson Haynes.
Courtney loved the fact that he was born on his parents' fifth wedding anniversary, July 16, and often bragged about how that made him special. Indeed Courtney was special and unique. He was a charming child who loved to be around people and would always flash a warm and genuine smile at everyone he came in contact with. He truly never met a stranger. He quickly embraced new acquaintances and claimed them as his friends.
As an infant, he was christened at Brown Memorial CME Church and attended there regularly.
As an adult, he joined Breaking the Chains Ministries Church under the pastorate of Rev. Charles Holland.
Courtney was a product of Jefferson County Public Schools and a graduate of Butler High in 1989. When he finished high school, he had one major goal---to be the best chef in America.
But first he enrolled in the Navy Reserve and was sent to Rome, Italy where he spent six months.
The culinary school, Johnson and Wales University, offered him a partial scholarship but due to the cost that he would have incurred, he set out on a course to train himself and learn from others who had mastered the culinary arts. More than anything, Courtney loved preparing five and six course meals for family and friends.
Courtney was the father of four sons-Courtney C., Courtney T., Courtland Q, Christian Courtney, and one daughter, Cydney V. He loved his children more than anything in the world. He often proclaimed that he might not be the best mate but that he felt he was a great father who wanted the best for his children.
Though he had several aunts and uncles, he claimed many others as aunts and uncles and addressed them as such.
Hardly a day went by when he did not tell his mother how much he loved her and that she was all he had. In truth, there were others who loved Courtney very much and have been shocked and devastated by his unexpected passing.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Thomas H. Haynes, his son Courtney Le'ron, and his best friend, Eric Whitney, Sr.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his mother, Sharon Haynes Parker; siblings, Cory V. Haynes (Sharhonda) , Chanda V. Haynes, five Godchildren, several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and his special friend, LaTashia Mack.
One of his friends said that we often say God took someone too soon, but if it's God's plan, it was his appointed time. We will cherish his memory always.
Courtney's memorial visitation will be on Monday July 13th, From 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Breaking Chains Ministries (7620 St. Andrews Church Rd.). His Celebration of life service will be on Monday July 13th at 12:00PM at Breaking Chains Ministries.
