Cora Evelyn Lewis, age 70, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on October 3, 2025.
Born as Coella Washington on November 19, 1954, in Dayton, Ohio, Cora was welcomed into the loving care of Will and Ina Bell Lewis shortly after birth. She grew up in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where she attended public schools and proudly graduated from Jeffersonville High School.
Cora was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt whose love and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She is survived by her son, Stephon Lewis; grandson, Azariah Carter-Lewis; daughter-in-law, Krystal Carter-Lewis; sister, Vera Lewis; brother, Joseph Lewis; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
Cora found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved walking, exercising, and listening to R&B music, especially the soulful sounds of Frankie Beverly & Maze. She enjoyed seafood, clothes shopping, and once had a passion for running. A faithful fan of soap operas, she rarely missed an episode of The Young and the Restless. Most of all, she treasured time with her family, particularly the bond she shared with her grandson, Azariah.
Even in times when she had little, Cora gave much, always ready to help others with a warm heart and kind spirit. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love and legacy will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched.
A memorial gathering for Cora will be Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 2pm-6pm.
