Connie J. Cheak passed away on August 16th at the age of 80 years old. She was born on January 29, 1946 in Shelbyville Hospital, and grew up in Waddy, KY. She attended Waddy Elementary and junior high and eventually ended up going to Shelby County High School. Upon graduation Connie attended what is now Sullivan Business School with an emphasis on accounting. Her professional career began at Williamson Co. and Celanese Coating before joining NACM (National Assoc. of Credit Management, South Central division). Connie went on to receive degrees in finances and business management, which led to her becoming not only NACM’s President/COO, but the first female president of a Class 1 credit bureau.
Connie worked there for 37 years until retiring in 2012.Connie was exceptionally passionate about her faith and spent countless hours volunteering and working at Southeast Christian Church. A lover of tiny dogs, Connie’s lap was often kept warm throughout the years by Dakota, Ollie, Benji, Joy, and Ebony. And one would be hard-pressed to find a more fervent University of Kentucky basketball fan.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Charley Preston Cheak and Dorotha Lula Williamson. She was the youngest of six siblings: Herbert Loyd Cheak, deceased (Judy, deceased), Charles Wayne Cheak (Betty, deceased), Phyllis Jean Noftsger, (Ted), Lois P. Podgursky (Charles, deceased), and Bonnie Sue Kinkade (Murrell), and half brother, Richard Carl Atwell, deceased (Colleen, deceased).
