Clyde F. Wininger, Sr.

August 1, 1937 — January 14, 2022

Clyde F. Wininger, Sr., 84, of Corydon, Indiana, passed away on January 14, 2022, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born August 1, 1937, in Orange County Indiana. There, he grew up in a large family with no shortage of childhood stories.

Clyde married his wife, Virginia (Grunden) Wininger, on June 25, 1954. He then enlisted in the United States Army, where he had many wonderful memories of his time spent in the service, most interestingly, the time he worked decoding encrypted messages while at Fort Richardson, Alaska. Clyde served from 1956 to 1964 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Bay of Pigs.

Clyde and Virginia then made their home in Corydon, Indiana, where Clyde was a self-employed plumber. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop, watching Westerns, and being with his wife and their dogs, Roscoe and Ginger. His favorite past-time was tinkering with small motors.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie E. and Anna Louise (Frisz) Wininger; brothers, Glenn and Leo Wininger; and infant sister, Imogene Wininger.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia (Grunden) Wininger; 5 children, Clyde "Frank" Wininger, Jr., (Dianne) of Georgetown, Peggy Teagarden (Lance) of Corydon, Rena Elbert (Richard) of Columbus, Steven "Randy" Wininger (Cindy) of Central, and Stella Voges (Matt) of Bristow; siblings, Joe, Alta, Mary, LaRue, Ruthie, and Al; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Harrison County Hospital and Norton Brownsboro Hospital for their care and compassion showed to their loved one in his final days.

There will be a private celebration of life in the near future with a date to be announced by the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Stroke Association (P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692).
