Clyde Nelson Poynter, 96, passed away on August 9, 2016 of complications from a broken hip.
Clyde was born in Foxport and raised in Maysville, KY. He served in WWII in the Signal Corp of the 4th Infantry Division and in the 527th Engineer Light Pontoon Co. He participated in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Clyde moved to Louisville after the war and was a co-founder of St. Matthews Sanitation and later founded Poynter Sanitation Co. He was a man of kindness and integrity and maintained a wonderful sense of humor to his last day.
Last August he lost his wife of 69 years, Mary Francis (Bailey). He is also preceded in death by parents, Taylor and Helen Cassidy Poynter and four siblings Maxine, Harry, Junie and William. He will be dearly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Marty Lyn and Stephen Hedgepeth, granddaughter, Heather Mara Hedgepeth and her partner, Adam Capps and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Both Dad's and Mother's ashes will be placed in the New Albany National Cemetery in a private ceremony. Please remember Clyde by an act of kindness to an elderly person or veteran. Condolences may be sent to PO Box 574, Prospect, KY 40059.
