Clara Helen (Grantz) Quinkert, of the New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on April 8, 1928, in New Albany, Clara lived a life marked by unwavering faith, deep family bonds, and a profound commitment to her church and community.
The daughter of Frank and Rose (Wismann) Grantz, Clara was raised with strong values that would shape her lifelong dedication to her faith and family. She was a longtime and active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
In June of 1948, Clara married James "Pat" Quinkert. Their union, built on a foundation of love and faith, spanned an extraordinary 70 years. Together, they nurtured a large and loving family, creating a legacy that extended well beyond their own lives. Clara’s devotion to her family remained the cornerstone of her life.
Clara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pat Quinkert, her grandsons, Matthew Paulk, Shayne Quinkert, her son-in-law, Don Ray, as well as three brothers and seven sisters. Though she has left this world, her memory is lovingly carried on by those who survive her, including her daughters Karen Paulk, Kathleen Quinkert, and Kelly Hornung (Scott); her sons Michael (Terri), Timothy (Valerie), Thomas (Portia), Patrick (Leigh), Dennis (Rachel), Daniel (Trisha), Gregory (Stacy), and Chris Quinkert. Clara’s family further extends with 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Family and friends will gather to honor Clara’s life during a visitation on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany, with burial immediately following at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
