Clara R. McDonald Dixon

Clara R. McDonald Dixon was born November 14, 1935 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Abraham and Jennie Lou McDonald. She was the fourth of six children. Her father, Abe; mother, Jennie Lou; three sisters, Mary, Lillian, and Ora; only brother, Abe; and niece, Jennie, preceded her in death. She gained her wings and departed this earthly life on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky. 

She began her education at Dunbar Elementary and then proceeded to Douglas High School, both in Oklahoma. She received a Bachelor of Science/Arts Degree from Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama, with a Major in Industrial Education, with an emphasis on Tailoring and a Minor in Social Studies. Clara moved to Louisville, Kentucky with her husband and son, Vernon Orlando Dixon; a daughter, Carol Annette Dixon, was born to the family in 1960. Clara received a Master of Education from the University of Louisville in 1972. She became certified in counseling and elementary supervision. Clara enjoyed teaching elementary school for twenty-nine and a half years. 

Her greatest loves were her family and her church. Clara's hobbies were sewing, gardening, and exercising. Her favorite bible verses were: "1. Be no deceived, God is not mocked: for whatever a man soweth, that shall he reap." Galatians 6:7 KJV and "2. Study to show theyself approved unto God, a workman that needth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." II Timothy 2:15 KJV. 

Clara was a superintendent of the Sunday School for more than fifty years. She joined the senior choir shortly after uniting with St. Luke Baptist Church and continued until her death. She served as church secretary for more than forty years and treasurer for more than forty five years. Clara also lover her community where she served as a trustee for sixteen years to the formerly named Eastwood Fire District. 

She leaves to celebrate her legacy her daughter, Carol Annette Dixon; son, Vernon Orland Dixon; sister, Jennie Harrison (Alvin); beloved nieces, Angela (Jerome), Andrea (John), Cynthia, Shirley, Kim (Tony), and Kamela; and nephews, Alvin "Vic" (Kim), Carl, Abe, and Eric. 

Visitation will be on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newcomer, East Louisville Chapel. A service to celebrate Ms. Clara's life will take place after visitation on Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Funeral Home, with burial following at St. Luke Baptist Cemetery in Eastwood, KY.
