Christopher Robert Ward, 74, of Shelbyville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. Born on January 15, 1952, in Salisbury, Maryland, Chris lived a life defined by quiet strength, creativity, and a fierce, unwavering devotion to the people he loved.
Chris served his country with honor as a veteran of the United States Air Force - a chapter of his life that shaped his character and sense of duty. In the years that followed, he channeled that same determination into building something lasting: he founded Chase Environmental Group, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and his belief that good work, done right, matters.
A man of few words, Chris spoke loudest through his actions. He had a gift for making people laugh - a dry wit and a comedic timing that caught you off guard and stayed with you long after. He was creative in ways both practical and imaginative, and he was kind in the way that only truly humble people can be: without fanfare, without expectation, without condition. Those who knew him best knew that when it mattered most, Chris would move mountains to show up for the people he loved.
In quieter moments, you could find Chris doing what he loved most - on the bank of a pond, fishing rod in hand, at peace. It was there, in the stillness of the water and the patience of a long cast, that he was most himself.
Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Terri Ward; his children, Rachel and Ryan Ward; step-children, Erin and Jacob Pitcock and his grandchildren, Ethan, Eloise, Liam, Hudson, Madilyn, Piper, Chaz and Theo - who were, without question, among the greatest joys of his life.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm at West Sixth NuLu Brewery (817 E Market St Suite 101, Louisville, KY 40206).
He was an amazing father, a passionate husband, a proud veteran, and a man who left the world a little better than he found it.
He will be deeply missed.
