He was born on November 14, 1935 in Eminence, Kentucky to Chester and Fannie (Rodgers) Mahoney Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Willie Mahoney, step-son Ricky Dunn, and step-daughter Leigh Anne Cox.
Chester is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Mahoney, daughters, Sharon (Phillip) Savage, and Susan Mahoney, step-sons, Wayne ( Sharon) Mahoney, Jerry (Kathi) Mahoney, Terry (Cindy) Dunn, David (Sam) Gabbert, and John (Robin) Dunn, step-daughter, Robin Denise Dunn.
