Cheryl Doerting Murphy

Cheryl Doerting Murphy, 75, of Crestwood, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

She was born on December 31, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky to Walter and Betty (Rowe) Doerting. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter J. Doerting, Jr., mother, Betty R. Doerting, and sister, Susan Tommie. Cheryl is survived by her loving daughter, Michele Thomas (Troy); sister, Peggy Skaggs (Marvin); grandson, Jett Thomas; granddaughter, Sage Thomas, and a host of beloved family and friends.

Cheryl was the most loving mother, grandma, and sister. She graduated from Butler High School in 1967. She retired from Corporate Express after 20+ years. In her retirement, she worked as a lunch lady at Kenwood Station Elementary because, as a young child, she remembered the kindness shown to her by her own lunch lady. She enjoyed working with schoolchildren and liked to wear goofy hats to make them laugh. In her free time, she loved baking cookies with her grandchildren, collecting treasures from yard sales, and running her neighborhood's Little Free Library. She was also a gardener extraordinaire with the most beautiful lawn in her neighborhood!

A memorial gathering will be on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from to 2:00pm to 4:00pm with a celebration of life service to follow at 4:00pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).

The family requests that contributions in Cheryl's memory be made to Adopt Me Bluegrass Pet Rescue or Alzheimer's Association.
