Charlotte Shoopman-Girdley, a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born Charlotte Nation on May 27, 1949, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, she lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Charlotte’s journey began in Shelbyville, where she was raised by her parents, James T Nation and Christine Burner Nation. She graduated from Eastern High School Middletown, a foundation that supported her lifelong commitment to service and family. Known for her social nature and a heart always open to giving, Charlotte embodied the true spirit of compassion. Those close to her remember her as very sociable, kind, and above all, someone who placed her family first in all aspects of life.
Throughout her life, Charlotte was always at service for others, a principle that defined her career and personal endeavors. However, her proudest accomplishments were being Memaw and Mom, roles she cherished deeply. She delighted in spoiling her grandchildren, creating lasting memories, and nurturing family bonds that will endure through generations.
Charlotte is survived by her beloved daughter Charlene Wright and her husband Timothy Pierce, and her treasured granddaughters Alexandria Grayson and Jessica Posante. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Collins Posante and Harlow Posante and extended family members, including her sisters Debra Spring and Geraldine Kirchubel, as well as step-grandchildren Timmy and Ryan, and step-great-grandchildren Tara, Andrew, Hailee, Nova, and Jackson. Her family remembers her as a loving matriarch whose legacy of kindness and devotion will continue to inspire.
She was preceded in death by her son Timothy Grayson, her father James T Nation, mother Christine Burner Nation, and husbands Sam Shoopman and Jay Girdley.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Charlotte’s life at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky, 40243.
