Charles Anthony Nichter, known affectionately as Duke, Nick, and Papaw, passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on March 9, 1932, in Louisville, Kentucky, Charles lived a life marked by devotion, love, and service.
A gentle giant in stature and spirit, Charles was a devoted Catholic whose faith was a central pillar of his life. He was a loving husband and a great father, deeply devoted to his family, and a true role model to those fortunate enough to know him.
Charles proudly served his country in the Navy from 1950 to 1953, a commitment that exemplified his sense of duty and honor. Following his military service, he dedicated 28 years of his career to Ford Motor Company, demonstrating the same steadfast dedication and work ethic that defined his character.
Outside of his professional and spiritual life, Charles found joy in simple pleasures. He loved fishing, camping, and spending time at the farm—activities that reflected his deep appreciation for nature and family traditions.
Charles’s greatest pride came from nurturing and molding his three beautiful grandchildren, imparting wisdom and love that will endure in their lives. He is survived by his daughter, Terraz M. Dean; his sons, Charles "Tony" Anthony Nichter, II (Derin Fetz), and Christopher Allen Nichter (Stacy); and daughter Karen Best. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren Jacob (Brianna) Jackson Best, C.J. Nichter, and Harrison Dean, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love and strength.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucinda Marie Nichter; his father, Charles Edward Nichter; and his mother, Florence Nichter.
Charles Anthony Nichter’s life was a testament to dedication, family, and faith. His enduring influence as a gentle giant and devoted husband, father, and grandfather will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 502 N 5th St, La Grange, KY 40031, with a mass to follow at 11. Graveside services will follow at, Floydsburg Cemetery, 5600 Old Floydsburg Rd, Crestwood, KY 40014 . Following grave side services, a repass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church.
