Charles Merrill Hegewald

Charles Merrill "Charlie" Hegewald, 66, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025. He was born on April 17, 1959, in New Albany to Arthur and Lu (Black) Hegewald. Charlie spent much of his life working as a plumber, a profession that he approached with dedication and skill. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, hunting, and shooting guns.

Charlie was known for always having a smile on his face and being kind-hearted in nature; he never met a stranger and readily offered a helping hand to anyone in need. His warm personality and willingness to assist others deeply touched the lives of those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Arthur Hegewald III, and his best friend, Angela Hegewald. Charlie's spirit lives on through his surviving family members, including his children, Sara Briscoe and Laura Sims, and his beloved granddaughter, Madyson Briscoe. He is also survived by his sisters, Karon Williams (Eric) and Jenny Hegewald; sisters-in-law, Linda Hegewald and Renee Bott; and brother-in-law, Craig Condra. Additionally, he leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation for Charlie will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. following the visitation.
