Charles R. Hardin, 90, of Louisville passed away Thursday, March 23,2017.
He was born in Washington County, Ky. April 20, 1926 to Dudley Hyatt and Flora Mae Hardin.
Left to cherish his memory are, his loving wife, Rita Carolyn Hardin, 8 children; Brenda J. Clark (Lee), Charlotte A. Hazeltine, Charles A. Hardin, Patricia G. Hardin, Tye J. D. Hardin, Todd C. Hardin (Phyllis), Lewis P. Cloud, Derick L. Cloud (Stacy), 8 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren, in addition to his loving sisters; Orpha Jenkins and Ruby Schlatter (Fred).
He was a very proud Marine Veteran of WWII having served his country honorably in the Pacific Theatre from December 21, 1943 thru December 20, 1945. He volunteered his service to his country at the young age of 17 on September 16, 1943, achieving Rifle Sharpshooter Weapons Qualification within 2 1/2 months on November 30, 1943, in addition to Special Military Qualification of Anti Tank Gun Crewman. He was Honorably Discharged as a Marine Corporal (TW) (January 8, 1946). He served at Tinian, Marianas Islands: Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands and Japan occupation twice. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Honorable Service Lapel Medal at Camp Lejeune, N.C., June 8, 1946.
Upon returning to the United States after WWII, having lost his only brother, Joe to the tragic sinking of the USS Mississinewa (AO-59) on November 20, 1944, he began a long creative and successful career as a farmer, design-custom builder, real estate developer, realtor, investor, and Western Auto Department Store owner.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, March 27, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home (10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville). His Funeral Ceremony will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial and military honors to follow at Beth haven Cemetery in Louisville, KY.
