Charles "Ninny" Garlinger

Charles "Ninny" Garlinger, born June 14, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on September 24, 2026, in Cecilia, Kentucky.

Ninny served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that reflected his strength and determination. He was also the co-owner of Clifford and Garlinger Construction, where his hard-working nature and dependable spirit were evident in the work he did. He was known as a man who was always on the go, strong-willed, reliable, and present for his family.

He brought a memorable presence to the lives of those around him. Ninny was outgoing, generous, and caring, with a sarcastic and funny side that many will remember with a smile. He could be stubborn and ornery, unpredictable at times, and full of personality in a way that made him unforgettable. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and classic cars, interests that brought him happiness throughout his life.

Ninny is survived by his children, Sean McCubbins (Niki), Elizabeth Bowers (Chris), and Charles Garlinger II (Colleen). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Ashley, Sierra, Josh, Lance, Joshua, Bailey, Jake, and Taylor; his great-grandchildren, Keyden, Kaia, Sophia, and Joshua; and his beloved puppy, Diablo. He is also survived by his brother, Edward "Bubby" Garlinger; his nephew, Shawn Armstrong; his nieces, Peggy and Trish Summers; and many other extended family and friends. May the love of his family and the many memories they shared bring comfort in the days ahead.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Charlotte Garlinger; his significant other, Sheila McCubbins; his brothers, Robert Garlinger and Sammy Garlinger; and his sisters, Helen Armstrong and Joyce Garlinger, lovingly known as “Sissy.”

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, Kentucky 40272. A second visitation will be held there on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville.

Ninny will be remembered for his strength, his humor, his generous heart, and the unmistakable energy he brought to life. His memory will remain with all who knew and loved him.
