Listen to Obituary
Charles Edward Flanary, Sr. was born on May 20, 1939 in Dryden, Virginia to his parents Sewell and Lonnie (Skaggs) Flanary. In a home shared with his mother, father, and 16 siblings, Charles,Sr. experienced the value of loving family relationships and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. After a few moves around the globe from Virginia, to California, to Kentucky, his family settled in Kentucky, where Charles was educated in the Jefferson County Public School System and later employed in the Construction industry. He retired from Louisville Paving Construction Company in 1999.

Having been a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, he was baptized there in 1971 by Rev. Ransom. He could be found serving there under the Christian leadership of his good friend and Pastor, Rev. Darrell Nathan until his health no longer permitted his attendance. In addition, Charles, Sr. was a dynamic vocalist and pioneering member of the Gospel Quartet Singing Group, The Singing Angels. It was not uncommon to find Charles, Sr. with a mic in hand, standing mainstage with his group, jubilantly praising and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in song. Next to his incredible love for his family, The Singing Angels Quartet was his favorite pastime.

On the evening of July 30, 2020, Charles, Sr. peacefully transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home in glory. He was met with the truth of salvation and his gift of eternal life came into fruition.

He is preceded in death by his Father, Sewell, Mother, Lonnie, Sisters, Josephine, Mary Alice, Christine, Virginia, Inise, Brothers, Judson, Forest, Henry, Roy, Elmer "Buddy", Frank, Otis, Foistfino "Buster", Oscar, Arthur, and his loving first wife, JoAnn Chatmond-Flanary.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Arlinda Flanary; his mother-in-love, Nancy Falls; siblings-in-love: James, Sr. (Felicia), William Craig (Kim), Bruce Craig, Sr. (Octavia), Sandra Peak (Michael), and Carolyn Craig; children: Charles, Jr. (Melissa), Richard, Latascha, Marietta (Demetrius); Grandchildren: Jasmine, Chance, Jont'e, Shaquita, Laquita, Cyara, Savion, DeAhna, Josiah, and Sarah; Great-Grandchildren McKenna, Jada, Deriell, Jamareion, and, twins-Mia & McKinley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends remain to cherish and celebrate his life and legacy.
