Charles “Ernie” Michal Sr., of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on November 3, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born on September 26, 1942, in Louisville, where his life’s story began.
Ernie will be remembered as a man who lived a wonderful life and who was deeply loved and respected by those around him. He was a longtime active member of the Kosair Shriners and also served as a former president of the Sandbugs Club. He was an avid golfer who found joy in the game, but above all, he loved being with his family. Being a papaw was especially dear to him, and his grandchildren lovingly knew him as “Mr. Grandfather Sir,” a nickname that reflected both the affection and lighthearted spirit he brought to their lives.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Ann Michal, whose long and loving marriage with Ernie was at the heart of his life. He is also survived by his daughter, Marcia Bentley, as well as his three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom were a cherished part of his family circle and brought him great pride and happiness.
He was preceded in death by his son, Chuck Michal Jr., and by his sister, Laura Jane Schoen. Their memories remained part of his life and of the family he held so close.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243.
