Charles Robert Crockett was born on August 4, 1925, in LaGrange, Kentucky, the proud fifth of nine children. Raised in LaGrange, he attended the LaGrange Training School and later worked alongside his father as a truck driver for T.W. Duncan.
On September 16, 1943, Charles was inducted into the United States Navy, officially entering service on September 24, 1943. As a Navy Seabee Stevedore, he served honorably until his separation on April 4, 1946. His dedication and service during World War II stand as a lasting testament to his strength, courage, and resilience.
Following his military service, Charles continued to work diligently, ultimately retiring from F.W. Owens Company, Inc., leaving behind a legacy of commitment and craftsmanship.
Outside of his career, Charles was known for his deep love of the outdoors. A passionate hunter and fisherman, he spent countless fall weekends hunting rabbits and squirrels, and warm spring and summer days fishing at Kentucky Lake or Markland Dam near Ghent, most often for his favorite catch, Buffalo and catfish.
Charles was also an avid baseball player in his youth, well-known across surrounding counties for his athletic skill. A lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds, his love for the game never faded.
On April 17, 1953, Charles was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Doleman. From this union, four children were born: Cynthia, Julius “Ray,” Charlestina “Tina,” and James “Jamie.”
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Ann Doleman-Crockett; his son, James “Jamie” Crockett; his special companion, Ida Mae Beaumont; his parents, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Winburn-Crockett and James A. Crockett; his sisters Catherine Bee, Betty Lou, Georgetta, Lee, and Anna Brown (Earl); and his brothers James Willie, Albert Lee, Jessie, and E.B. Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memory three of his four children: Cynthia Crockett-Howell (Charles), Julius “Ray” Crockett, and Charlestina “Tina” Crockett; his special daughters Vivian Jones-Wright and Rhondelyn Beaumont; grandchildren Amber Beaumont, Anastacia Beaumont Dixie (Johnny), Ryan Beaumont, and Jalen Moore; and six great-grandchildren: Amare, J’Veon, J’Nya, Kashdyn, Amiya, and Ryley. He is also remembered lovingly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Today, we honor not just his century of life, but the integrity, work ethic, and love of nature that defined him. Just as he once played baseball with passion and cheered faithfully for his Reds, Charles lived his life with dedication, endurance, and heart. His game on this earth may be complete, but his legacy remains an inspiration that will continue to guide his family for generations to come.
