Charles Cook, Jr.

With hearts full of sorrow and gratitude for a life well-lived, we remember Charles Cook, Jr., who passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2026, in Sellersburg, Indiana. Born on February 20, 1955, in Fort Eustis, Virginia, Charles’s journey through life was marked by love, hard work, and a steadfast devotion to family and friends. 

From his earliest days, Charles was guided by the loving example of his mother, Mary Rose Judd, who preceded him in death. Her love, strength, and unwavering guidance shaped him into the devoted, affectionate, and honest man that so many came to know and cherish.

A proud graduate of Fairdale High School, Charles carried the values he learned there throughout every chapter of his life. He led by example, demonstrating integrity, perseverance, and a strong work ethic while inspiring those around him to do the same.

During his time at Fairdale, Charles showcased his remarkable athletic ability as a member of the football, track, and basketball teams. As the football team's kicker, he became known for the incredible power. Friends and teammates often joked that he could kick a football so high and so far, that you could go home, grab a drink of water, come back, and the ball would still be in the air. It was a lighthearted testament to the extraordinary athletic talent that made him stand out.

Charles also found great joy in encouraging others, especially when helping Emily with her volleyball practices. Whether on the field, the court, or the sidelines, he was always willing to lend his time, support, and encouragement to those he loved.

Charles dedicated his career to CSX railroad, and to Ford Motor Company, where he worked diligently. His strength as a hard worker shone brightly; colleagues recall his straightforward approach and his unwavering dedication not only to his craft but to those he worked alongside. The people at CSX, Ford—and indeed, all who had the privilege to know Charles—were touched by his reliability, sincerity, and innate kindness.

Above all, Charles was a deeply devoted father. His daughter, Emily Cook, remains to cherish his memory and carry forward his legacy of love and support. She was the greatest joy of his life, and one of his proudest accomplishments was watching her grow and succeed. Charles's unwavering encouragement and pride in Emily’s achievements were evident to all who knew them; theirs was a bond built on mutual respect, laughter, and enduring affection.

Charles celebrated life through the simple joys—spending time at the beach, trying new dining experiences, enjoying volleyball, and gathering with friends and family. Those who shared these moments with Charles will remember the warmth of his companionship, his ever-present support, and the laughter that filled each gathering. He was a man who truly understood the importance of cherishing time with loved ones, and he gave freely of himself to enrich the lives of those around him.

To his many loving friends and family, Charles leaves behind memories filled with affection, honesty, humor, and the example of a life lived with purposeful care. His supportive nature was especially evident in the way he celebrated not only Emily’s accomplishments but also the milestones and dreams of those he held dear.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Rose Judd and by his father Charles Cook, Sr. 

He is survived by his beloved daughter Emily Cook, and many loving friends and family.  

A memorial gathering to honor and remember Charles Cook, Jr. will be held on August 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. Family, friends, and everyone touched by his remarkable spirit are welcome to join in recalling stories, sharing in sorrow, and celebrating the indelible mark he left on each of our lives.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we are forever grateful for the example Charles set—a life of hard work, love for family, honest friendship, and unwavering support. His memory will be cherished and honored always.
