Charles Eugene Roberson (88) went home to be with Jesus on June 25th after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, deeply cherished father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was born on March 1, 1937 to Margaret Leota Bernardi in Stephensport, Kentucky as the flood waters of the great 1937 flood receded. He was beloved and nurtured by his mother’s extended family in Ekron, Kentucky as he grew up.
Charlie was a graduate of New Albany High School class of 1956, where he made and kept close ties with lifelong friends.
He was instrumental in launching successful entrepreneurial endeavors including Riverport Industries, commercial properties, housing properties, and in his retirement years he became an avid gentleman farmer.
Charlie and Judy support many philanthropic & charitable organizations including: Samaritan’s Purse, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, Graceland Christian Church, Lamb and Lion Ministries, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. They are members of Graceland Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Leota Bernardi, and his first wife, JoAnn Wooldridge Roberson, and great granddaughter, Mariah S. Daniel.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Judy Smith Roberson; daughters, Rhonda Lowrey (Patrick), Resa Coartney (Bob), and stepdaughters Cara Davis (John) and Amanda Newkirk (Steven). Charlie, also known as Papa, was the proud grandfather of 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, Dexter Lowrey, Lorelei Lowrey, Leyden Pavlica, Elijah Pavlica, Levi Pavlica, Ava Brettschneider, Logan Daniel, and Ruby Jean Lowrey and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana and a second visitation on Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 12:00 PM until the time of service. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM to honor and celebrate his extraordinary life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite Christian charity or perform an act of kindness for someone else and share the beautiful name of Jesus! That would have meant the world to him.
