Charles William Banet, 98, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. He was a United States Air Force veteran that proudly served his country during WWII. Charles was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He was born on December 21, 1919, in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, to the late George and Elizabeth (Renn) Banet. Charles was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha (Steinert) Banet; son-in-law, Otis Fonda; as well as nine brothers and sisters.
Charles is survived by his children, Sandra Fonda and Michael Banet (Peggy); grandchildren, Erik Fonda (Michelle), Mark Fonda (Jeanine), Todd Fonda (Beth), Kimberly Polster (Josh), and Nathan Banet (Kelly); 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Newcomer – Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church (415 East Eighth Street, New Albany) with burial to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Albany.
The family requests that contributions in Charles' memory be made to Hosparus – the Community Hospice of Southern Indiana (502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150) or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
