Charles W. "Dick" Alvey, Sr., 86, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015. Dick was a long time member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. He worked for over 24 years at American Standard. Although that was his occupation, his true passion was the nearly 200 acres of land where he owned and operated Alvey's Bird Farm in Floyds Knobs. This farm was home to dozens of species of animals and exotic birds and he enjoyed having people and schools come to tour his land.
He was born on July 28, 1929 in Vine Grove, KY to the late Alfonso B. & Mary Lillian (Ray) Alvey. He was also preceded in death by his son in laws, Dale Campbell & Michael Glover; grandchildren, Michael Campbell & Renee Barger; and 4 sisters.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Clarissa (Eubank) Alvey; son, Charles Alvey, Jr. (Janet); daughters, Karen Campbell, Melynda Glover, Sheila Pennington (Steve), & Tammy Campbell (Marcus); 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday in the chapel at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (3011 Martin Road, Floyds Knobs) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
