Charlena Marie Andrews

Charles Andrew Schnieders, Jr., later in life known as Charlena Marie Andrews, 66, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016.
Charlie was preceded in death by the love of his life, to whom he was married for 37 years, Genevieve Gregory; and his son, Joshua Schnieders.
He is survived by 2 sons, Charles Schnieders III (Cherie) and Jeremie Schnieders (Nicole); 1 daughter, Katrina (Schnieders) Lacy; a nephew, John Herl raised as a son; 11 grandchildren; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlie graduated from St. Xavier High School before attending seminary and later joining and serving his country in the United States Navy. He worked for General Dynamics in Texas and, upon returning to Kentucky, joined and retired from the Carpenter's Union Local 64. He was devout in his faith.
After transitioning, Charlena became a leader in the transgender community and worked very hard in the fight for equality of the LGBTQ community. She helped many in their times of struggle through counseling. Charlie/Charlena will be missed by a great number of people. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and Nana!
A Memorial Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday in the chapel at the funeral home immediately following visitation. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Henryville, Indiana.
