Cecilia Mary Beattie Hassert died like she lived – with radiance, grace and indomitable spirit.
After a 19-month battle with cancer, Cecilia, 25, passed away Dec. 21, 2025 at her home in St. Matthews, holding the hand of her loving husband, Jake. She passed just seven days before their first wedding anniversary.
Born Oct. 26, 2000, in Louisville, Cecilia was a young woman with the selfless demeanor of someone much older, never complaining about the illness that wrecked her body but instead worrying about its toll on others.
That concern for others was typical of Cecilia, who had a gentle heart and spirit that extended into all areas of her life, including her work at Lyndon Animal Clinic. She previously worked at the Kentucky Humane Society and Springhurst Animal Hospital. During her life, she gave love and a home to many cats, including Lilah and Pete.
Family members and friends describe Cecilia as loyal, funny, fierce, courageous and graceful, not to mention insightful and compassionate with a powerful sense of justice. Cecilia was a wonderful woman who cared deeply about the people she loved, even in their worst moments. She was there for them in their darkest hours, but she had the strength to both hold them accountable for their actions and grant them the grace and strength they needed to redeem themselves.
On many occasions, Cecilia stepped in to help vulnerable people who she saw were being treated unfairly, taken advantage of or threatened, often putting herself in danger to do so. She also volunteered for programs that helped equip needy children with school supplies.
The bond that connected Cecilia and her husband and partner, Jake, was strong and unwavering. And that love was reflected in the attentive, dedicated and gentle care that Jake provided throughout her illness with the steadfast help of Cecilia’s mother, Pamela, and brother Alex.
Cecilia will be missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Jake Hassert; her parents, Blake Beattie and Pamela Drost Beattie of Louisville; her brother, Alexander Beattie of Louisville; her brother and sister-in-law, Aidan Beattie and Jennifer Lanham of Louisville, and their daughter, Matilda; her parents-in-law, Cyndi Reusch of Crestview Hills, Dan Hassert of Covington and Monica Dias of Covington; and her sisters-in-law, Abby and Emilee Gowers of Eubank.
She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins on both her mother’s and father’s side, with whom she enjoyed spending many summers and creating happy memories.
