Cathy Gass, 55, passed away on August 20, 2026, in New Albany, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.
Born on December 23, 1970, Cathy lived a life centered on love, devotion, and caring for those around her. She was a proud graduate of New Albany High School, and throughout her life she was known as an accomplished homemaker who always made sure her family had what they needed. In the daily work of making a home, Cathy gave of herself generously, creating comfort, steadiness, and love for the people she cherished most.
Cathy will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving godmother and grand-godmother, a loyal sister, and a compassionate friend. She found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She enjoyed playing cards and games, going on church outings, spending time with her family, and loving her pets. Those who knew her will remember the warmth she brought into a room, the kindness she extended so freely, and the deep care she showed in both word and action.
Above all, Cathy’s family was the heart of her life. She is survived by her husband, David Gass, whose life was joined with hers in love and partnership. She also leaves her daughter, Bria Vanover, and Bria’s husband, Ian, along with her grandchild, Ian Kern, Jr. Cathy is also lovingly remembered by her brother, David Scott; her sister, Lois Pritchard; her niece, Jessica Myers; her nephew, Paul Myers; her sister-in-law, Dawna Gass; and her brother-in-law, Johnny Gass. Each of them carries forward treasured memories of her love, her strength, and the special place she held in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Scott, and her mother, Mary Scott and her uncle Bill. Their memory remained a part of her life, and now she rests with those who went before her.
Cathy’s passing leaves a deep sorrow in the hearts of those who loved her, but also a lasting gratitude for the life she lived and the care she gave so faithfully. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
