Catherine Joan Diamonof

October 14, 1936 — June 8, 2018

Catherine Joan Diamonof, age, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Friday, June 8th, 2018. She was born on October 14, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late John and LaVon Nickel.

She attended Holy Cross School of Nursing at South Bend, Stephans College in Columbia Missouri, where she earned a Bachelor Degree, and finally the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she graduated with a Master's Degree.

Her greatest pleasures were her family and friends. Reading and music were close seconds. Her travels took her many places throughout the world, exotic and domestic. The three places closest to her heart were Indianapolis, Las Vegas and Louisville.

The majority of her professional career focused on psychiatric nursing. One of her most beloved jobs was at Our Lady of Peace. She continued with many years of service at the Las Vegas Mental Health Center. To list a few of her many accomplishments, she was instrumental in the collaboration for the template for transitional housing for the mentally ill which provided shelter and services for many that would have otherwise remained homeless. This went on to become a national standard.

As President of the Nevada Nurses Association for many years, she actively lobbied and had legislation passed in Carson City for advance practice psychiatric nurses to have a broader scope of practice. This enabled the patients to receive a higher quality of care with much less red tape.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Chuck Diamonof.

She is survived by her sisters, Jean Ann Hoffman and Mary Jane Nickel; her children, Beth Fink, Alisa Fink, Mike Fink (Carla), Cathy Barsness (Dale), Chuck Harris (Tamara), and Joye Sarbeck (Jim); grandchildren, Kyle (Crystal), Tyler (Leah), Brett, Brian, Ashtyn, Hayden, Shelby, Aaron (Shelby), Ryan, Regan, Natalie; great-grandchildren, Noah, Liam, Grayson and Rex. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends, including honorary member of the family, Scott Spinuzzi.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness, especially Traci Sowell.

Memorials may be made to Mass of the Air. The family wishes to thank all those who celebrated our Mom's life. No additional services are scheduled.
