Carson Eugene Smith

Carson Eugene Smith, of Louisville, Kentucky, departed this life on August 27, 2026, at the age of 82. Born December 23, 1943 to Fred Eugene and Louise Bernadine Smith, he gave his life to Christ at a young age at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. As a youth, he was one of the founding members of the JBB Delphi, all of whom became distinguished men in their careers.

Carson was a proud graduate of Kentucky State University. While there, he became a member of the Beta Mu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He served in the United States Airforce for four years, then resumed his education to complete a graduate degree at the University of Kentucky. He dedicated most of his professional life to higher education administration through budget and finance, beginning with the University of Kentucky, followed by the University of Missouri and Kentucky State University. He retired from the State University of New York (SUNY), Canton as Vice President for Finance and Administration, Emeritus. 

Carson was a devoted husband and father and took great pride in his family. He loved bragging about their accomplishments, celebrating their successes, and encouraging them every step of the way. He was also an avid University of Kentucky fan and enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for the Wildcats. 

Carson was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ann Cantrell. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 60 years, Gleneva M. Smith; his four children, Mark Carson, Shanna Louise, Angela Binti (Brian), and Andrew McCowan (Autum); seven grandchildren; Asia, Courtney, Carson, Christian, Piper, Cruz and Kash; one great-grandson, Tristan; his sisters, Carol Buckman (Tommy) and Nicolette Jones (Paul); several “adopted” children; and a host of family members, friends, colleagues, and loved ones. Carson's legacy of love, leadership, service, and devotion to family will live on through all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Dr. Louisville, KY 40243. A funeral service will be held in his honor on Wednesday, September 9th at 12:00 p.m. followed by burial at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 N Dixie Blvd. Radcliff, KY 40160.
