Carolyn Sue Smith, affectionately known as Sue, passed away peacefully at her home on December 29, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born on February 21, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Sue's legacy is profoundly woven into the lives of her surviving family members. She was married to her devoted husband, Terry Smith, for an incredible 56 years. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter and warmth. Sue took immense pride in her children, Donna (Billy) Snider, Tera (Billy) McKinney, and Samuel Smith, nurturing them with love and guidance throughout their lives. She was the proud grandmother of Blake (Chelsey) Bohnert, Chris (Abby) Bohnert, Casey Bohnert, and Shelby (Tyler) Leech, all of whom brought joy to her heart. Additionally, she embraced the role of great-grandmother with excitement, welcoming Jensen, Logan, and Archer into her family with open arms.
Sue is also survived by her beloved sisters, Ann Zimmerman and Doris (Kevin) Brown. She was predeceased by her parents, Clyde Hilbert and Mamie Tingle Hilbert, and a sister, Thelma Reid.
In a world that can often feel rushed, Sue Smith reminded everyone around her to slow down and appreciate the simple joys of life, especially the companionship of animals. She particularly cherished her dog, Jenny, and her late pig, Pinky. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, family devotion, and a genuine love for all living beings, ensuring that her spirit will continue to inspire those she touched.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Visitation will continue on Monday at the funeral home at 9:00 am until 10:00 am. Her Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Monday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow in accordance with Sue's wishes.
