Carole Jean Gordon, a beloved figure in her community and family, was born on October 21, 1937, in Louisville, Kentucky. She passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, in Lexington, Kentucky, leaving a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
Carole dedicated herself to her profession as a school bus driver with Jefferson County Public Schools for an admirable 26 years. Her commitment to her job was emblematic of her lifetime of service; she was not just a bus driver but a caring presence in the lives of many children and their families. Though she retired, her impact on the community continued through her active involvement in various local initiatives and her neighborly spirit, as she was known for her generosity and desire to help others.
Her devotion extended deeply into her family life. Carole was a proud wife to her late husband, James Gordon, with whom she shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they established a family that was the center of her world. Carole is survived by her loving daughter, Lynn Johnson, and her sons Bill (Linda), Gary (Jolanda), and Neal (Dominic) Gordon, as well as daughter Lori (Jerome) Basham and daughter in-law, Venus Gordon, and her brother, Jerry (Linda) Kapfhammer. She was blessed with 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were incredibly cherished by her.
The day she passed away, she was eagerly greeted by those who passed before, her husband, James Gordon, her parents, Gilbert and Jesse Kapfhammer, two sons, Keith and Robert Gordon, daughter in-law, Teresa Gordon, son in-law Mike Johnson, grandchildren, Courtney Gordon, Kelaiah Gordon, Dylan and Dalton Basham.
Carole’s nurturing spirit earned her the title of "Grandma to everyone." Known for her incredible work ethic and culinary talents, she delighted in cooking and baking for anyone who crossed her path. To her, the act of giving was truly a joy. Carole was a woman with a servant's heart, tirelessly working to make others feel welcome and loved.
She held a strong Christian faith, having actively participated in the Youth Ministry at Immanuel Baptist Church and formerly attending Parkland Baptist Church. Her faith was an essential part of her life and guided her actions as she touched the lives of so many.
As we gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Carole Jean Gordon, we will remember her infectious kindness, her unwavering commitment to family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY, 40272. A Celebration of Life will follow on October 9, 2025, starting at 11:30 AM at the same location.
Carole Jean Gordon will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, her friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
