Carlos Alexzander Lynes, age 97, was born on September 17, 1927, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to the late Elder C.A. Lynes and Mrs. Lucille E. Thirgood Lynes. He was one of three children born to this union, alongside his late siblings, Lois Marie Lynes Burwell and Percival (Percy) F. Lynes.
Carlos was a proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1946. He went on to attend Louisville Municipal College and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Louisville. He later became a devoted member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
He served honorably in the United States Army for ten years before transitioning to civilian life, where he built a successful career as a salesman with Commonwealth Insurance Company and Belknap. He later retired as a manager from Gordon Darby.
Leadership came naturally to Carlos. He was known for his sound judgment, effective communication, and strategic vision—qualities that earned him the presidency of his high school class, leadership as President of the Board at the Blanton House, and the role of Sabbath School Superintendent at Magazine Street Seventh-day Adventist Church.
A lifelong learner, Carlos was an avid reader and a passionate scholar of history. He delighted in discussing historical events with family and friends. In addition, he took great pride in yard work and was known for his meticulous care of his home’s landscape.
Carlos leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary; two daughters, Sharon Thompson (William) and Carla Lynes; a son, Gregory P. Bibb; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
