Calvin Lee Miller, Jr., age 69 of La Grange, KY, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021.
Calvin "Buddy" Miller was born in Columbus, OH, grew up in Rhode Island, served in the U.S. Army overseas, and settled in Kentucky where he raised a family of his own. A creative and technical writer by trade, his true passions were in his hobbies. He loved to travel, go fishing, garden with his dogs by his side, volunteer at the local VA, and referee soccer. He never stopped working—perpetually upgrading his home and restoring his cars and motorcycles or tinkering around in his workshop with music on in the background.
Calvin was always on the move, making fast friends everywhere he went. Whether it was at the gym, at a local concert, or at a Louisville F.C. or Bats game—he never met a stranger. And although he kept himself busy, he always had time to tell a story or brag about his children and grandchildren. He was either having a new adventure or telling the tale loudly with the largest smile you've ever seen.
As a friend, father, or gramps, Calvin was the embodiment of selflessness. He joyfully would give his loved ones the shirt off his back and expect nothing in return. Generous and optimistic beyond measure, he leaves a large wake of joy behind him.
He is already missed by his daughter, Brooke Coffey (Chad); his son, Keith Miller (Ashley); his grandchildren, Gavin, Mackenzie, Max, Abe, and Sam; his big sister, Donna; his wonderful extended family; as well as anyone who knew him for even a moment. He was a confident believer in the hope of Jesus and is surely awaiting a reunion with all of us in heaven with his parents, Cal and Irene, as well as his sister, Jean.
Calvin's wishes were always to be cremated and he did not want an official service. Instead, he would have wanted everyone to use that time and money to go down to the British Virgin Islands and have a drink to remember him while watching the sunset over the water. If you're not the beach bum type, you can also make a donation to your local VA in his honor.
The best memorial we can give him is to keep telling his stories…as loud as we can.
