Calvin A. Burton, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September17, 2024, in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Born on March 6, 1949, Calvin was a proud graduate of Southern High School, class of 1967, and continued his education at University of Louisville Speed School, laying the foundation for a lifelong career in craftsmanship.
Calvin began his professional journey with a four-year apprenticeship at International Harvester, where he developed his skills as a Tool and Die Maker. His dedication to his trade led him to work with the company for sixteen and a half years before he transitioned to TARC, where he enjoyed a fulfilling career spanning 27 years until his retirement.
Beyond his professional achievements, Calvin was known for his innate ability to fix anything, a skill that endeared him to many. He cherished the time spent working in his garden, pouring hours into nurturing it, surrounded by the beauty of nature. Calvin's fondest memories were of the happy times spent with his father's family on their farm in Columbia, Kentucky, where the roots of his upbringing instilled a strong work ethic and appreciation for simplicity.
Calvin is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy Flaherty Burton, and their children, Jackie Gragson (Jamie), Chris Burton (Misty), and Teresa Craig (Joey). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Madison, CJ, Makayla, Mackenzie, Logan, Brittany, Kayla, Joey, and Anna, along with his cherished great-grandchildren, Ryan, Hudson, Lucy, Levi, Calum, and Jaxon. He is also survived by his sisters, Peggy Keen (John) and Sharon Herndon (David).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin A. Burton, Sr. and Ethel L. Coomer Burton, and great nephew, Brandon Mudd.
A visitation in honor of Calvin will be held on September 27, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243. In lieu of flowers, donations in Calvin's memory may be made to the Baptist Health Palliative Care Unit (Please select the Louisville Location and that you would like your donation to go to Palliative Care on the link provided)
