Listen to Obituary

Byron Dawson Henninger, better known as “Tom” to friends, or “Tommy” to family, died August 22, 2025 at the age of 84. He was born March 14, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky to William (Billy) and Lorena Henninger. He was baptized and confirmed at Kenwood Methodist Church.

After attending Valley High School, Tom proudly served in the US Army Black Horse Infantry as a helicopter mechanic with deployments to Germany and Vietnam. He retired as a superintendent at Kentucky Stone.

Tom was the best story and joke teller that ever was. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, skeet shooting, drag racing with Mark, cheering on the Louisville Cardinals, attending antique car shows, taking trips with family and friends (the more the merrier!), playing bluegrass and listening to classic country music.

He is reunited with his mother and daddy, brother Stephen (Steve) Henninger, brother-in-law John Gordon, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He leaves on earth four children Barbara Lander (Tom), Patricia Henninger (Jensen), Sherri Randolph (Randy), and David Henninger (Nicole), 10 grandchildren Heather, Cory, Luke, Zeke, Eli, Caroline, Jack, Cameron, Amber and Shelby, 8 great grandchildren Evelyn, Adelaide, Miles, Ophelia, Arlo, Noor, Jonah, and Jayce, 4 sisters Peggy Gordon (Johnny), Sue Wiseman (Gary), Kathy Duncan (Ron) and Pam Henninger, 8 nieces and nephews, life-long buddies Wayne and Norbi and many friends – all whom he loved and adored.

Except for the years he lived in Corydon, IN, he was a resident of Louisville KY. In his final years, he lived at Symphony at Valley Farms where he continued to share his light and laughter, while cultivating new friendships with the residents and staff. His family is grateful for the love and care he received from everyone there.
