Bridget Sherrill

October 10, 1944 — August 18, 2022

Anna R. "Bridget" Sherrill returned to her Heavenly Father on Thursday evening, August 18th, 2022. We are so very sad for the loss of such a strong, beautiful, caring woman. She was a true matriarch of the family. Bridget was a tough, hard-working person who could walk alongside anyone through the greatest of triumphs and the hardest tragedies. While not necessarily big on sharing her feelings, she was there when others needed to share theirs. When it came to "keeping house" Bridget wasn't afraid to put a broom in someone's hand if she thought they should be helping out, because, of course, she was working circles around people in the kitchen during holidays and family get-togethers. At family gatherings she may have been one of the oldest there, but she was often one of the liveliest (unless it was Derby season, then she may doze off on the couch). She always wanted to hear about the grandkids' adventures, was known for doling out advice, making jokes, laughing and, of course, playing a fierce game of euchre with anyone who would play. But Bridget's greatest hallmark was a big heart that cared deeply for others, especially for her family. She would do anything for her kids and especially her grandkids. She loved them fiercely.

Bridget worked for the Kentucky Derby Festival and was in her 50th year! She was honored this year with the Distinguished Service Award and rode in the Pegasus Parade as a celebration for her contributions to the community through the Pegasus Pin program. She was planning to retire from the Kentucky Derby Festival next month and was starting to see a different sort of life for herself. In this new chapter, she was looking forward to spending even more time with her family, especially her first two great grandsons who were both born this summer. She REALLY loved those babies! Though her physical presence will be dearly missed by all of us, now she will have a bird's-eye view of the latest additions to the family, the babies to come and all of the family adventures!

We take comfort in knowing there is a heaven and that one day her earthly family will reunite.

Bridget is preceded in death by her mother, Anna R Critchfield; father, Archie B Downs; siblings, Ronald Cooper, Betty (Cooper) Vandy, Patricia (Downs) Lewter, Bert Downs; granddaughter, Leasha Twyman; and her stepson, Paul Sherrill who passed away just a few days after she did.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Twyman (Michael); sons, Phillip "Todd" Amin (Amie) and Michael Sherrill; her stepsons, Roy and Robert Sherrill; her step mom, Thelma Down; stepsisters, Donna Grimes, Suzanne Wallace, and Karen O'Berry; grandchildren, Evan Twyman (Maddie), Michaela Twyman, Bryan Twyman, Rachel Kindler (Chase), Kate Amin, Emily Amin; and great grandsons, Ezra Twyman and Liam Kindler.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Newcomer, Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive) and on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Southeast Christian Churches Chapel in The Woods (1407 Moser Road). A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday at The Chapel In The Woods with burial to follow at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood.

The family requests that you wear your favorite Derby Festival Pegasus pin! If you forget to bring one, we will have extra on hand!

Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation KDF Foundation
