It is with both heavy hearts and heartfelt appreciation that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Brenda Sue Lewis, 75, of New Albany, Indiana. She passed away on August 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and quick comebacks.

Brenda was born on February 3, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Edward and Lillian (Johnson) Jensen. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Kelly Stanton (Greg); her son, Edward “Tom” Hardin; and was preceded in death by her son, Chris Hardin. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Jordan Kelly (David), Austin Kelly (Carolyn), Amanda Hardin (Billy), Luanne Tichenor (John), and Christopher Hardin; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Brenda had a great sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh-whether she meant to or not. Her front doormat declared, “If I’m naked, will you go away quicker?” She loved a good joke and had a habit of retelling them-often hilariously botching the punchline. She could go nose-to-nose with friends over a friendly argument, never backing down and always ready with a witty comeback. She adored people who, in her words, could “tell it like it is,” and she counted many such truth-tellers among her closest friends.

But beyond her humor and feisty spirit, Brenda had a heart as big as they come. She never let you leave without a hug and an “I love you.” She was endlessly proud of her children and especially her grandchildren, bragging about them to anyone who would listen.

We will miss her every day, but we will carry forward her love, her sass, and her reminder that every goodbye deserves a hug and an “I love you.”

P.S. Mom, you were right when you said, “Someday you will miss me badly singing

‘Happy Birthday’ to you.” … We already do.

Brenda's wish was to be cremated and a gathering of family and friends will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with an opportunity to share memories and celebrate Brenda's life beginning at 3:00 p.m. There will be a memory jar for anyone who would like to write down their favorite story of Brenda.
