Brenda Hargis-Scrogham

Brenda Hargis-Scrogham, cherished sister, devoted family member, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on March 2, 1950, in Stanford, Kentucky, to Raymond Lee Hargis and Vera Vaughn Hargis, and grew up surrounded by a loving family who formed the foundation of her compassionate and gentle spirit.

Brenda was a proud graduate of Crab Orchard High School in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, with the Class of 1968, a milestone she treasured throughout her life. Her roots in Stanford and the surrounding community remained strong as she kept close ties to family and lifelong friends. For the past several years she was a very active member of Westport Road Baptist Church where she was heavily involved with the children's ministry and was also known for her southern style cooking and what she did with it.

Family was always at the heart of Brenda’s life. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted sisters, Wanda Hargis Elkins and her husband Ron, and Regina Hargis Meister and her husband Al. Brenda's generous love and support extended to her nieces, Angela Conner (Mike) and Patricia Alexander (David), and her nephew, Ronnie Dalton (Meagan). The next generations also held a dear place in Brenda's heart, including her great-nieces and nephews: Kayla Clarkston, Logan Alexander, Koty Alexander, Taelor Alexander, Corey Conner (Paisleigh), Emma Dalton, Evan Dalton, and Dylan Dalton. Her legacy continues in her great-great-nephews—Amias, Liam, Lenny, and Brantlee.

Brenda cherished her wider family network, including special cousins Bob and Janet Weaver, and she created meaningful chosen family bonds throughout her life. She was honored to be called a non-biological mother by Lindsay Shultz (Jason) and delightfully claimed the role of non-biological grandmother to Kingslee Shultz. Brenda’s kindness and warm presence touched many, including her very special friend Jeanne McClure (Bruce) and honorary brother Chad Abney (Angie).

Brenda's deep connection to those around her, her unwavering support, and her steadfast loyalty defined her life. She cultivated lasting relationships built on mutual respect, encouragement, and love. Those who knew Brenda will remember her for her gentle guidance, her wise perspective, and her ready smile that brought comfort and joy to those she encountered.

A graveside service in honor of Brenda Hargis-Scrogham’s life will be held at Buffalo Springs Cemetery, located at 630 Hustonville Rd, Stanford, KY 40484, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Brenda are invited to join in honoring her memory and celebrating the legacy she leaves behind.

Brenda Hargis-Scrogham will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit of kindness, devotion to family and friends, and the warmth she shared will remain in the hearts of those she loved, and her memory will endure in the stories and cherished moments she leaves behind.
