Brenda Spann Brown

June 16, 1948 — April 18, 2022

Brenda Spann Brown, 73, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 18, 2022, and is now home with our Lord and Savior. She was a kind, loving woman; "never met a stranger" as her close family and friends would say. Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her, saw Jesus through her and that's how she liked it. She was a long-time member of Arcade Baptist Church and Southeast Christian Church.

Brenda is the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Betty (Callahan) Ungles. She was born on June 16, 1948. She is survived by her loving husband Perry Michael (Mike) Brown; her only daughter Shannon Spann Zopff (David); beloved granddaughter Catherine (Catie) Prell; sisters Mary Dillander and Patricia Demaree; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; stepdaughters Leslie Dillman (Mike), Crystal Kenny (Mark), Tara Swartz and Amy Lutz; step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and a multitude of friends from her work, church, and high school. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Peggy Ann (Ungles) Paige, Thomas Ungles, Jr., and Julia Rose (Ungles, Whitaker) Price. Everyone who knew Brenda loved her, she had a way about her that would draw people to befriend her.

She retired from the Louisville District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Human Resources Department. Even after nearly 20 years of retirement, co-workers would still consult with her on their personnel issues because she was so knowledgeable and easy to talk to. She would often be called "nosy rosey" due to her endless questions, but to that she said, "Well if you want to know something, ask it". She enjoyed her retirement with the love of her life, Mike. They took many trips around the country and several cruises together enjoying their time traveling and sight-seeing. She also loved dining out with friends regularly, doting on Catie, going to yard sales with Shannon and her late sister Judy, and many, many trips to the boat!

Catie's message to her grandma: "Grandma, I really, truly did not believe this day would come so soon. You were the last person I thought would go; you were too stubborn to leave me, but the Good Lord called his faithful servant home, and you went. I remember how you hated pictures of yourself but would always take them with me. You dropped me off for my first day of college. You were there for every major moment and every small one. I'm going to miss you calling me "CaCa" or telling me to sing our song, even though neither of us could carry a tune. I'm going to miss you nagging on me, telling me you don't like my outfit or that I need to cover up. I'm going to miss our phone calls and you telling me to call you more. I'm going to miss your questions and how nosy you were. I'm going to miss our car rides and shopping dates. I'm going to miss you ending every text with "luv gma". I'm going to miss going to the pool with you, watching your game shows, and falling asleep on the couch together. Most of all, I'm going to miss hearing you say, "I'm her grandma". You were and always will be one of my favorite people. You never failed to put a smile on my face. You were one of the most stubborn, fun, loving, funny, kindhearted people I have ever known. You never met a stranger. I am thankful every day that you were my grandma and that I got to be loved by you. I love you as deep as the ocean, as wide as the sea, and with all my heart ❤ until we meet again~ John 3:16"
