Betty Jo (Grismer) McDonough, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the age of 72. She was born on May 19, 1954 in Louisville, Kentucky.
She retired from Jewish Hospital after a remarkable career that spanned more than forty years—a testament to her unwavering commitment and sense of service. Colleagues and friends alike knew Betty for her compassion, steadfast work ethic, and sincere desire to help others.
Betty found immense joy in traveling—cruises were her particular favorite. Her adventures took her to new places, enriching her life and those who shared in her journeys. Back at home in Jeffersonville, she remained an active member of the local YMCA, nurturing lasting friendships and prioritizing her health and well-being.
Betty’s love of life was reflected in her passions and pastimes. She often attended local concerts, finding happiness in the rhythms of music and the shared experiences of community events. She spent countless hours tending to her flowers and plants, creating beautiful spaces and taking solace in nature. Frequently, she could be found walking the trails, relishing the tranquility and beauty of the outdoors.
A spirited supporter of the University of Louisville, Betty cheered enthusiastically for her Cardinals, her voice joining with so many others who celebrate the spirit of the team—Go Cards!
Above all, Betty was deeply devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Tommy McDonough; her daughters, Ashley McDonough and Mari Beth Simpson-McDonough; and her granddaughter, Ca'Shay Williams. She is also survived by her brothers, John Grismer, Jr. (Judith), Michael Grismer (Joyce), and Bobby Grismer (Anne), as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, John Grismer, Sr.; her mother, Carmella (Mazzarella) Grismer; her brother, Edgar Grismer; and her sisters, Shirley Salings and Edith Brown.
Friends and family are invited to honor and remember Betty at a visitation on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana.
