Betty Joyce Karnes, 83 of Louisville, Kentucky Passed away On Monday February 14, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Betty retired from Southwest Hospital after 25 years as dietary manager. She was know for her banana pudding and her "Betty Pie"! Those two thing always sold out before lunch even started. After retirement Betty went to work at Big Dixie Bingo where she managed the concession stand. She and her husband were active volunteers at the Spartan Youth Football League and Prairie Village Youth Sports. Her favorite thing about summer… homegrown tomatoes and snapping and eating green beans. Betty thought those were the staples to a good meal! Betty loved her children and spending time with them and her fur babies! She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, She loved to travel. Her favorite place to vacation was Colorado. She also enjoyed gambling at the casinos, as she would say; she wanted to go drop some quarters. She will be truly missed by those who knew her!
She was born January 5, 1939 in Goodlettesville, TN to parents Aby Esther Smiley Gilliam and Mitchum Smiley. She is preceded in death by her husband Malcom R Karnes, infant sons Joseph and Micheal Karnes, mother Esther Gilliam and step-father George Gilliam, father, Mitchum Smiley, sisters Beatrice Curry, Katherine Perry, Juanita Shaw, Maxine Fields, Jackie Stinson, and brother Norman E Smiley.
Betty is survived by her 3 loving children Stephen Karnes, Ann Karnes (Trish), Timothy Michael Karnes (Bogie), her sister-in-law Judy Bottoms, many nieces and nephews and her loving and faithful dogs Abby and Tyson.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with cremation to follow.
